Notting Hill Carnival 2019
Are you ready for The Notting Hill Carnival? Well, from the 25-26 August West London is going to be party central! This two-day affair is the world’s largest street carnival, let’s plunge into some of the history of this festival and look at how it’s celebrated.
It all started in 1959 when a carnival was held at St. Pancras Town Hall in London. It was held to stabilize the relationship between local British residents and the newly arrived Caribbean community. Every year, over one million people attend this carnival.
So, all those who are going, take out your carnival costume as it’s going to be exciting. This Festival includes Caribbean dancing; traditional reggae, calypso, rumba, and zouk music. Not to forget the street vendors selling Caribbean food. So, you don’t have to worry about being hungry!
This year's Notting Hill Carnival will take place on the August Bank holiday. The carnival-goers will appreciate a traditional carnival opening. This will be played in the Caribbean Islands called J'Ouverton on the 25th of August.
You can enjoy live music on stages in Emslie Horniman’s Pleasance Park and Powis Square. Explore all kinds of dazzling Caribbean music. So, are you ready to hit the dance floor ladies and gents?
The Grand Finale will be on Monday. This consists of dancing, street performances, steel drum music groups - not to forget the most awaited performance, the Notting Hill Grand Finale Parade. There will be full-on entertainment all along the route.
Make sure to wear comfortable shoes as there will be a lot of walking. Show your love and support for the Notting Hill Carnival, wear crazy styled hats, some large jewelry, whatever takes your fancy - you choose!
This day is going to be busy and tiring. You will also need some basic stuff like; tissues, hand sanitizer, bottles of water, sunscreen, sunglasses. Here’s a good thing about this weekend…Well, it is free! You don’t have to purchase tickets or pay to get in.
