Summer 2019 by the River
We all love summer, when we think of summer picnics comes in mind. There’s a lot of famous rivers across the UK where you can relax and chill. Be it with your friends or loved one. Let’s check out some of those flowing beauties and learn a bit more about them.
The gorgeous River Severn is one of the longest found in Great Britain. The Severn is 220 Miles long and is the second longest in the British Isles. The name Severn is obtained from Sabrina. It came from a mythical story of a spirit who drowned in the river. Don’t go there at night guys, Sabrina might come to visit you. Just joking… The river links the iron and coal fields of the Midlands with the Bristol Channel. This place is brimming with stunning scenery.
River Great Ouse
Great Ouse runs from Syresham in Central England and flows into East Anglia. It is 143 Miles long, flowing from North to East. The Great Ouse was historically vital for commercial navigation. Its lower passage flows through drained wetlands and been upgraded to prevent flooding. Plus, it has built up a road to avoid traffic. This gorgeous river has way of reminding you of how unique and beautiful nature is.
The River Wye is the fifth-longest river in the UK. It is up to 134 Miles long. It flows from Plynlimon in the middle of Wales and runs to the Severn Estuary. This river is special as it acts like a border between England and Wales, or you could call it a natural border. If you decide to take a walk along the Wye, you will discover a world crammed full of wild life. You will find Birds, a variety of mammals and even a salmon fishery.
Leeds and Liverpool Canal
This is one of the most amazing canals to be found in the North of England. It links Leeds and Liverpool, it is 127 miles long and reaches across The Pennines. A new link was added connecting it to the Liverpool docks system. This canal took nearly 50 years to complete. This canal was used for transportation of coal in the 1860s. This canal now is used for boating, observing wildlife and for people’s favorite pastime - relaxing!
The River Tay is the longest river in Scotland. Its source is found in Western Scotland. At its source in Ben Lui, it begins as a tiny spring. It then stretches for 119 Miles, The Tay is 2 miles wide in some parts. This river is simply jaw-dropping. The River Tay is famous for its salmon fishing, so if you fancy some fresh smoked salmon curry… Have your fishing gear standing by!
Each river has its own story, but there’s nothing stopping you from making new ones. Propose to your girlfriend, go fishing or simply chill. It’s up to you!
